If you only drink water will you gain weight?

So there's a diet I want to try where you don't eat anything but you drink water the whole day. 2 times the normal amount. I've heard that if you don't eat, your body goes in starvation mode and you gain back a lot of weight. Would that happen if I drink water all the time?

How to Lose Weight in Your Cheeks

Recommended Answer:

You do not gain wait while you're fasting. That's NOT what "starvation mode" means. You necessarily lose weight. A person's fluid/water weight varies up to a few pounds a day, so if you drank enough water you might gain a pound or two from one day to the next. But you certainly would not KEEP gaining weight every day if you continued fasting for a while -- you'd peak out and start losing unavoidably. What starvation mode means is that you're metabolism slows down so you burn fewer calories than normal. If fasting, your weight loss would be less than you would have predicted... but you still MUST lose weight. You cannot violate the laws of physics. And since your metabolism has slowed down and you've depleted glycogen that needs to be restored, WHEN YOU START EATING NORMALLY AGAIN is when you'd rapidly gain back weight.
