What should a beginner start off doing when they join a gym?

I'm a guy, and I'm 21, and I'm tired of being fat and tired all the time, so I want to join my local gym, they have all the standard equipment, but I don't know what I should start off doing, I want to lose weight and increase my stamina, I'll focus on strength training later, so what should I start off doing to reach my goals for now, and how often, I mean, how many days a week should I go to the gym and how long, thanks for any answers!
