No, the real problem shows when we look at Countries with healthy people. Look at the Philippines as example and compare to the US. When I was there as a typical American, I was giving some sugar treats to the neighbor children. But I am an American! The families actually came to me and asked me, "please give our children healthy treats!" When you are in the market, do you see parents come in and when the child and parent come to the counter the child is loaded with unhealthy sugar treats! Did you know that 85% of diagnosed as ADHD children have this because of American diet and sugar fixation? I know as I had hypo when young and craved sugar. We are attempting to provide those who do not have the money to put food on their tables a way to do so. We just need to take the next step and start educating people on how to budget for healthier, simple meals and then we need to work with the food industry on how we can reduce the prices of healthy food in this country.Just as a side-note.....many obese people aren't obese simply because they eat wrong or are lazy. This country has a lot of people that, due to health problems, have a problem regulating their weight. Also, there are many commonly prescribed medications in the US that cause people's weight to increase with each year they are on it.I'm not saying that food stamp abuse is happening. I'm just saying that we can't judge ALL people on food stamps and claim that they are obese and getting paid to stay that way. Those of us who are fortunate enough to be able to purchase food on our own need to be a little less ignorant of the connection between obesity and poverty and a litle more respectful to people out there who are just doing the best they can.
