How much weight will I lose if I walk 24 miles 5 days a week?

(4.8 miles a day) Im going to start walking to my gym and back when I go workout, it's 2.4 miles there but ill be walking there & back. I'd go Monday-Friday and a week it totals out to 24 miles. I weigh 165 now and I'm 5'5. That will be my source of cardio (4.8 miles a day) and then an hour of working out but focusing on muscles. I know there isn't a way you can say exactly how much I'll lose, but just take a guess? I'll do this for 2 months, or until it gets too cold. Thanks!

Ash, this is not the best way to lose weight. You may harm your legs for over exertion. I advise you to take some precaution on your food also. Better to consult a dietitian and physio before planning a weight-loss plan.

  • How much does your boyfriend weigh?
  • Weight loss is dependent both on the calories you eat vs the calories burned. In you question you mention just walking everyday. That's only calories expended. It will help, but it's easy to overeat to cancel out the weight loss from walking a lot.I don't know your age, but at 165lbs and 5'5" your total daily calorie expenditure doing nothing would range between 1700-2100 a day. if you were active and walked that much everyday it would account for roughly 200-400 calories. Possibly more, but I wanted to at least give you an idea.
  • It all depends on your diet. I live by three apps. Lost It!, GymGoal, and TargetWeight. All free apps. I record my measurements and weight lost everyday. It gives you graphs and estimates when you will reach your target. You can record all your exercise and diet so when you're not losing weight you can go back and look to see why. GymGoal also gives so many different weight exercises and what muscles they work. You'll never ever need to talk to a trainer at the gym with these three apps.
  • I think what you're doing well and it continues, It is difficult to guess how much lose in 2 months Because it also linked in eating behaviorI know a very good product helps you to reach your goal ,You can be found it at this link http://tiny.cc/git32w
  • Hypothetical questions about “IF” and “I'm going to” and “I'll do this and that”??Where I live (in the US, in a place build up around cars, no lack of parking spaces…you can only walk outside in your residential neighborhood), I cannot walk the 2.8 miles to get to my gym.I would LOVE to walk to get somewhere, not just doing circles in my neighborhood.I could walk to the gym, if I'm dressed up in a gym outfit (which I don't really need as I'm going to the gym for the pool and need my aquatic center bag with my flip-flops. swimsuit, pool + sauna + shower towels, personal body and hair products), not looking like my car broke down somewhere (then everybody stop their car to offer assistance), being the only pedestrian out there, oblivious to endangering my life with car traffic and because of nonexistent public transportation, some drivers are inexperienced 15yo teens, other are 80s half blind ones, others are drunk, sick, distracted… my 120 pounds human body would have a serious disadvantage if colliding with a 4,000 pounds car. Let's say that I'm a daredevil and not afraid to negotiate grassy hills where no sidewalks are available (why would the city make sidewalks where nobody walks there?) then at a specific intersection, with traffic lights for cars but no crossing system for pedestrians, I was told to call 911 so the local roaming cop, 2 minutes away, or even the firefighters just at the corner would come and stop traffic so I could cross the road safely and not end up like a pancake on the local evening news where they always zoom in on one of your lost shoes!!It's cheaper for the city to have me call 911 and summon cops and firefighters to stop traffic (those guys do drills all the time, kills the boredom, and they like to help an old lady cross the street) than to redo the road to include sidewalks that nobody but me would use (the other people trying to cross the road there ended up at the hospital and on the local news). It's probably not even their shoe but some archives footage of a shoe in the middle of the road. So, if you're overweight, maybe because nobody walks to go places, where you live, make sure you can safely walk to the gym; otherwise your gym surely can provide you with other aerobics. Where I live, people walk/jog inside their residential neighborhood, otherwise everybody use cars, even to go to the gym to walk there on a treadmill or a trail around the outside facilities like the soccer field, the tennis court, the baseball field, the playground…My gym has an outside half a mile dirt trail around the compound which is nice for two reasons…no cars and it's a dirt trail which is better for overweight people like you who have to take into account total body weight to not damage the joints and avoid asphalt walking in the street. You'll do this for 2 months and then what?Regain body fat for winter insulation so you don't shiver?Use layers, a down-filled jacket, gloves, hat, winter boots…You forgot one important clue…your age, which makes your BMR an estimate now.You cannot ask a detailed question and expect a detailed answer if you fail to mention important clues. You're also not mentioning your caloric intake. At 165lbs, you'd burn 80 calories per mile but if you walk 5 miles and then get an extra 400 calorie meal because all that walking makes you hungrier, you won't lose body fat (+ eating more for what you do at the gym, like weight training that requires a high carbs meal 2 hours prior). So assuming you're like 20yo and done growing (wild guess), your BMR would be around 1,580 calories.Hopefully you eat at least that much to cover your BMR, as to not send your metabolism down the drain.Providing that you eat enough to cover your BMR but not more, you'd need to burn 3,500 calories with exercising to lose one pound of body fat so, in your case, that would be 43.75 miles give or take (80 calories per mile). Readjust numbers as when you lose weight you burn fewer calories per mile, like I'm 5'5 too but 120lbs and only burn 60 calories per mile, so I'd need to cover 58 miles to lose one pound of body fat. You're overweight, because you're probably out of shape and/or having the wrong diet. The right diet can be the wrong one if you're not physically active so you're putting too many unused calories into your fat reserves. You have the wrong ideas and expectations. You need to fix that if you want to be among the 5% of people who lose weight successfully (they don't regain it).Walking is better than not walking but in most country it's called “going places” and NOT exercising. And they still go places when it's cold. You should spend 3 to 6 months (from savvy to clueless) just to maintain your total body weight while losing body fat with aerobics and GAINING muscle mass with weight training to get back in shape.

How to lose weight effectively - long term?

I'm 5ft2 and weigh around 10 stone. I'm a size 10-12 in clothing but because of my height I don't carry it very well. I'm looking to lose body fat all over, can anyone suggest effective & HEALTHY diets plus exercise regimes that really do work? I'm not looking for anything that happens too fast, no crash diets etc because I want to do this properly and healthily but I definitely want results. Any personal experiences that you can share with me would be great. Thank you in advance :) X

How to Lose Weight Without Exercising

I'm done with my weight loss journey and completely happy with how I feel and how I look right now however losing weight is a challenge for anyone and even losing 5 pounds and keeping it off isn't an easy task. Also I bet you didn't know that 5 pounds of fat is about the size of 8 cheese burgers? That alone should be enough to make anyone want to get on the ball and start a change for the better. Weight loss can be really easy to learn but the problem is nobody wants to put the required effort that is needed to actually do it, instead people continually look for (easy) ways to do it. If there was an easy way to lose weight I don't think 35% of Americans would be obese. There was a time when I also wanted to lose weight and was tired of starting diets only to lose motivation and give up just a few weeks later after seeing no results. However, let me tell you it is literally one of the easiest things you will ever learn once you find a good and reputable place to learn it from and I say that only because the world is filled with magic diet pills, liquid flush diets and a thousand other quick fixes that promise xx pounds of weight loss in the first week and even though it is impossible they know you're going to do it because your desperate. I have probably tried every diet pill, liquid flush diet, and ab rocket machine known to man and have had no success with any of them nor do I know anyone that has ever had any success with them. I have also tried starving myself which works very well for the first few weeks' right before your metabolism comes to a complete stop and eating just the tiny bit makes you gain weight and you end up weighing more than you did before you started starving yourself. Companies promote weight loss to make money not to get people healthy again and that's because they know you're not going to be a customer and buy their products if you're no longer fat.http://fatlossfaactoor.com is a site I want you to go to when you have 10 or 20 minutes to spare and I want you to sit down and watch his video on weight loss. He helps people every day to lose weight I have never seen someone as committed as him and that will go so far out of his way to help someone. His weight loss program is one of the best I have ever had the enjoyment of doing and it is without doubt the best success I have ever had with any weight loss program. I also couldn't be happier with my body right now and I have never felt this wonderful in my whole life. In the end you just got to remember to stick with it and stay confident in yourself and in no time you can achieve the results you have always wanted. It's not hard to lose weight but most people have a hard time staying motivated and 9 times out of 10 it was because they weren't really committed from the beginning. Anyways I hope I helped you and I hope you make the commitment to change your body and life. Remember it's not easy to take the first step but you did, you're here right now taking it and the rest of the steps will fall into place. Have a wonderful day.

  • its so simple its mind boggling . eat small amounts, think of the food in your mouth not on plate, you start changing what you eat to things you body needs.remember you can eat again in 3 hours if you want ,always eat if you get hungry, never eat when your not ! by ALWAYS eating small amounts you stomach will shrink, works the same as having a band fitted or you stomach stapled but your in control!
  • You should not go over 110 lbs. Here's a good low-carb food/exercise plan:Breakfast: Cook 9-grain cereal (from health food store) in water with rolled oats and wheat bran. Make a pot of it on weekends and nuke 1/2 cup each morning. Then stir in low fat milk or yogurt, banana, walnuts and berries. Drink hot Ovaltine. Breakfast should be your largest meal of the day to raise blood sugar level which falls during the night.Lunch: Egg, tuna or turkey ½ sandwich on multi-grain (not just whole wheat) bread with bean or alfalfa sprouts, yogurt, fresh fruit. If you had meat loaf for dinner, bring a meat loaf sandwich on whole grain bread (NO mayo). On cold days, a squatty thermos of hot chili, split peas with ham, or beef stew.Snacks: Fresh (not canned) fruit. Nothing ever from a vending machine. Fruit smoothies. Dinner: salad with white meat chicken and fresh (not canned) veggies: tomatoes, 2 kinds of lettuce, 2 kinds of shredded cabbage, shredded or sliced carrots, alfalfa or bean sprouts, zucchini, green or red peppers, hard boiled eggs, brussels sprouts, broccoli, cauliflower, tofu, cottage cheese, spinach...Instead of dressing, squeeze 1/4 tomato over it. Or homemade bean/vegetable soups; great way to recycle leftovers.Or grilled fish with steamed veggies.Or omelet: In blender, whip together eggs, tofu, cottage cheese, onions, garlic powder. Cook with mushrooms, chopped tomatoes and green or red peppers. Avoid junk food, fast foods, gluten, pastries, desserts, syrup (even canned fruit in syrup), peanut butter, fat/grease (pork, wieners, chops, bacon, salami, pizza, chips, fries), pasta, potatoes, ramen, popcorn, white bread, rice, canned veggies, ice cream (it's lard + chemicals), chips, tobacco, alcohol (kills brain cells).coffee (carcinogenic). no oil except olive and mac nut. Sodas (loaded with toxins; leads to stroke, obesity, kidney damage, high BP and inhibits bone growth in kids), anything with sugar (cancer cells feed on sugar, it wreaks havoc on your liver, mucks up metabolism, impairs brain function, makes you more susceptible to heart disease and diabetes), To keep your skin clear, drink water, tea, veggie juice, unsweetened fruit juice.Join a gym; they have all the equipment and staff to show you how to use it to get the look you want to achieve, but you have to ask them. Much cheaper than buying your own equipment. Go hiking, biking, jogging, bowling, swimming, rowing, jump rope, play tennis, badminton, volleyball, soccer, jumping jacks, lift weights, trampoline? To tone your tummy, do sit ups, push ups, pull ups, leg lifts, butt raises and crunches. For more energy, take Super B complex. Try appetite suppressants.

what are some healthy snacks you guys like?

So I rely like vegetables, I like eating them and I am rely not to picky about what they are raw cooked I don't rely care. The problem is I just turned the age where your parents start making you buy stuff. They don't rely eat that many vegetables or healthy items that often in general. I just started a job that has me working longer than usual. I am having a challenging time finding healthy stuff besides just the regular carrots, celery, broccoli, and such that is easy to pack and somewhat inexpensive to fit my budget. as a result I have gained about 10 pounds which I am not happy about. So now I am about 25-30 lbs overweight when I was losing weight before I started this job.My job is active so I figured I could sneak a few "goodies" in there, junkfood of course.I just rely need help here finding something that would replace some of the bad things that are causing me to gain weight. what are your favorites healthy options?Thank you very much.

Pork rinds. Counter intuitive but they have zero carbs and are loaded with protein. A bit heavy on the salt and saturated fat, but if you moderate it its not a big deal.Beef jerky. NOT Slim Jim's, those things are made of old newspaper and the nut sacs of diabetic hogs. Lean, loaded with protein so it fills you up more than a vegetable based snack. Again, a bit heavy on salt so moderation is key.Sunflower/pumpkin seeds. These are my favorite. When I was in the Army you could actually track me from the trail of sunflower seed hulls I would spit out throughout the day. I like these because they really do not add up to many calories throughout the day, but the act of cracking them open and spitting the shell out keeps your mind occupied and off of being hungry.

  • always choose fruits and veggies that are in SEASON. if tomatoes, for example, are not in season where you live, just do not buy them. only buy produce that is in season and cheaper. also, shop for specials. that always helps save money. frozen fruit and veggies are also good too, and tend to be cheaper. frozen berries in particular are my favourite. i have also found markets are cheaper in selling fruit & veggies than supermarkets- so if you live near a market, check it out.other snack ideas:-nuts and seeds-coconut water (fresh from a coconut)-smoothies -cans of tuna -eggs (hard boiled)-protein powder-air popped popcorn (with no butter or salt) -hot sauce or home-made guacamole to dip veggies inremember to generally control your portions. that is the secret to fat loss. just because a carrot is healthy, it does not mean you can eat 8 a day in between your meals.
